Madeleine Floyd tells us…
‘The classic French Hen as depicted by the classic ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ the Faverolle is a hybrid of the Cochin and Houdan breeds of hen. A utility breed, that lay well and are reared for meat, the hen is soft feathered with a characteristic muffler and feathered legs with five toes to each foot. The most popular colour is salmon, but Faverolles can also be black, white and blue (grey). They are said to be good layers and carry on producing eggs through the winter. www.madeleinefloyd.com
